BOBLAND Magazine Chapter No. 2

THE NEW AMERICANA

BOBLAND Magazine is a fashion and arts publication from another universe. Chapter No. 2: The New Americana explores how Gen Z redefines nostalgia and national identity through their own cultural lens. While traditional Americana evokes Harley Davidson, Bruce Springsteen, and classic denim, this issue asks: what symbols define a new generation? Together with the BOBLAND team, I led the art direction, layout design, photography, and styling to bring this vision to life.

ART DIRECTION

CHAPTER NO. 2: THE NEW AMERICANA CREATIVE DIRECTION
2025

  • For The New Americana, my creative direction centered on capturing Gen Z’s sense of nostalgia through a modern, playful lens. The layouts evoke the feel of early 2000s computer desktops, while 2010s throwback tracks and childhood magazine-style quizzes deepen the nostalgic tone. Visually, the photography draws strong inspiration from Jack Bridgland’s bold, character-driven style that echoes Y2K.

THE BOBLAND TRAIN

The New Americana train is a visual centerpiece I devised for the back of Chapter No. 2—a tradition in every BOBLAND installment. This fiery vehicle, modeled by BOBLAND staffers ODDBALL and SNAIL, carries the crew from issue to issue, concept to concept.

For this chapter, the train blazes through a chrome-drenched desert wasteland, where cacti glint like Harley Davidson pipes. Its face may stir memories of Thomas the Tank Engine, but this version trades innocence for edge—on fire and unapologetically wild, it captures the chaotic, nostalgic spirit of The New Americana.

Layout & Design

  • I designed all page layouts for BOBLAND Magazine Chapter No. 2, collaborating with the BOBLAND staff to create the artwork and photography featured throughout. You’ll note spreads that look like crumpled set lists and even a quiz that reminds you of Coke or Pepsi?
