INTO BOBLAND
BOBLAND Magazine is a fashion and arts magazine from another universe, created and headed by me. The magazine features a fully anonymous staff made up entirely of original characters, each introduced within its pages. Together with the BOBLAND team, I led the art direction, layout design, photography, and styling for the debut issue. For Issue No. 1 of BOBLAND, my goal was to introduce the world of BOBLAND itself—setting the stage before future issues explore other themes. I shaped the art direction to evoke a saturated, otherworldly atmosphere that feels both strange and welcoming. The issue is populated by surreal, extraterrestrial characters and layered with nostalgic elements—like the BOBLAND trading cards reminiscent of Pokémon—and others that feel eerily familiar, yet unplaceable, sparking a sense of déjà vu. Even the comic-book styling of the cover models is meant to blur the line between the known and unknown. This is the only issue where BOBLAND turns its gaze inward, inviting the reader to fully enter its universe.

For the first issue, I wanted to develop a saturated, whimsical world to embody BOBLAND. The characters are joyous inflatables and the colors are bright and youthful—yet the world is mysterious and the reader is unsure where they truly are. I did all the illustration and design work for these 3D "BOBLAND friends" in Adobe Illustrator.

I designed all page layouts for BOBLAND Magazine Issue No. 1, collaborating with the BOBLAND staff to create the artwork and photography featured throughout. I also wrote, illustrated, and designed the comic page shown above, starring BOBLAND characters BOB, SPRITZ, and CHEF.
