Well howdy! My name’s Aubrey!

I’m a graphic designer and art director based out of Houston, Texas but the truth is…I do a lot of things! I’m also a journalist, stylist, photographer, and editorial producer. My journey began as a journalist and editor, but I always knew that I was drawn to the visual side of things. So after a dozen photoshoots or so, a short film, and a self-published magazine, I found myself with hands in all these different creative pockets so to speak. I thought I had to pick just one, but I’ve found this is far from the truth. This just in: you can do it all! Well, I suppose you’ll be the judge of that since this is my portfolio after all. Anyways, enjoy!

Fun fact: I became a designer by accident?

This is true! This might be taboo but…I’m a self-taught designer! Beware! Just joking, although this is true—by education, I am a journalist. I also happen to have a minor in Japanese. It was through my love for fashion journalism that I became a stylist, and then a photographer, and then eventually a magazine founder? I’ve always loved magazines—I’m drawn to how artfully 50-100 pages can come together to create a clear, cohesive picture amongst many other things. I’ll save my essay on why I love magazines for another website. Anyways, this led me to found my own fashion & arts publication. At this point, I could write the stories, organize a team, take the photos, and style the photoshoots…there was only one area remaining that I had not yet touched. You get the idea. Long story short, yes, I did teach myself design tools to create my publication—but little did I know it would become so much more than that. Developing effective design work and art direction has become such a fruitful and meaningful career to me, and not a day goes by where I take it for granted.

So in conclusion,

you can teach yourself!
